Bring Your Own (BYO): Voices of the Contemporary at the Carpenter Center fosters discussion and debate about pressing issues in contemporary culture across Boston area communities by bringing to campus emerging figures in contemporary art for presentations and conversations. The series was established by Carrie Lambert-Beatty, Professor of Visual and Environmental Studies (VES) and History of Art and Architecture (HAA) at Harvard. With Claire Grace, now Professor of Contemporary Art at Wesleyan, I conceived and organized a number of events in this series when working as Departmental Teaching Fellow in VES.

Opening Reading brings together artists and writers for informal readings and exhibitions in residential rooms. I invite someone to read or show work where I'm living and they in turn invite someone to show or read at the opening. OR is inspired by the third ethic of Permaculture, in which gardeners share their surplus. The idea can be applied to vegetable bounty or skills, experience, time, or, in this case, room and community. OR has been supported by the Foundation for Contemporary Art and the Jim K. Spriggs Foundation.
